What is Infrared heat?
Infrared is a natural electromagnetic radiation that is invisible to the human eye and which is radiated by an object depending upon its temperature. This infrared radiation heats when in contact with the skin; hence the popular expression "warmth radiation". The sun emits infrared radiation just as much an oven or a human body itself. This can all be made visible with the aid of an infrared camera.
Infrared deep warmth warms the body directly, but not by the surrounding air.
A small example illustrates this:
If we stand in the sun we become warm, yet if we move into the shade we become cooler - although the air temperature is the same.
The warming infrared radiation should not be confused with ultraviolet radiation. UV radiation provides a sun tan, but can cause severe damage to the skin.
How does Physiotherm Infrared therapy work?
The human body requires warmth in order to function optimally as we are warm-blooded and all bodily reactions are geared to functioning particularly well at temperatures of around 37° Celsius. For this reason, the human body contains an efficient temperature control system. Under normal circumstances, this makes it possible to keep the temperature constant to within a few tenths of a degree.
By increasing what is known as core body temperature, our immune system is stimulated into mobilising more power for a short period. The processes of metabolism are speeded up. The supply of blood to body tissue is increased, as is its supply of nutrients and oxygen. More defence cells can also be delivered to where they are required.
In addition to that, the transport of metabolic waste from body tissue is accelerated. The immune system works more quickly and powerfully and can thus combat unwanted intruders, as well as accelerating the healing process.
With a Physiotherm, the gentle increase of core body temperature makes it possible to give the body access to increased temperature without strain. The special Physiotherm infrared deep warmth thus helps our bodies to fortify themselves, by deliberately increasing body core temperature slightly but effectively.
